Should I Homestead OFF or ON GRID?

So you want to live on a homestead.

  • Have you ever thought about living off grid?
  • Will your modern homestead be on the grid or off grid?
  • Is it better to start on grid and work your way off?

These are the questions we get on a regular basis at An American Homestead.

In this article we carefully break down the ins and outs of what it could mean to live the off grid life. This is not something you should just jump into because you saw someone else doing it or maybe you have some romanticized view of living like Daniel Boone. There are many considerations that you have to keep in mind especially with any family that you are bringing along for the ride. And it will be a ride.

There is no doubt that a life and home off grid is stressful, especially for a wife who has lived with most of the modern wonders that a 21st century America can bring. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not trying to dis-way you from living off grid as there are many benefits to this lifestyle. I’m just trying to give you some things to think about before you jump head first into the deep end of the pool.

We have been tackling a number of questions concerning homesteading that we have gotten over the years and making articles and videos addressing them. We will continue that process with this next article about living on grid or off grid. Check out the following article that we have posted over at Steemit.com. 2. This is a very thoughtful presentation. We’ve been off-grid for 20 years. We have a decent solar setup. Still, there are times when I miss the grid. We have a nice gas-powered generator to use as needed, as when it’s been grey and cloudy for several days. All in all, I never want to be dependent on the grid again.
