The national news media is loaded with stories on how the zika virus is coming to North America. What can we do to protect ourselves and family from the Zika virus and other viruses like West Nile?
The Zika virus disease is caused by a virus transmitted primarily by Aedes mosquitoes. People with Zika virus disease can have symptoms that can include mild fever, skin rash, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain, malaise or headache.
We are choosing to employ a certain flying mammal on our homestead that will help us against these viruses. Bats can eat up to 600 mosquitoes an hour! If you can manage to have a family of bats living close by, you could really lower the risk of any disease carrying mosquitoes around your home.
