An Unpopular Linux Video! 😬

2 things that will forever prevent mass adoption of Linux by the public.
1. Command line
2. Failure to install and function non linux software.

  1. I’m with you on Windows. I use Fusion360 and it requires windows 11 now. I will have to get a new PC to use it. All These companies that charges subscription fees is just sucking your bank account dry. As Klaus says you will own nothing and be happy. On another note, if Linux gets too big they will turn into another Microsoft type company.

  2. It just means you will own nothing and be happy. Linux is better, if you can’t hack it yourself pay some one to configure it for you but yielding that way is laughable.

  3. There is so many versions of the Linux
It’s also what they run on servers
If you had to run back the windows it’s because you don’t know what you’re doing with Linux

  4. You could become an Apple fan! Lol Maybe slightly better than Microsoft….except for their prices of course.

  5. VIDEO alternate title: “Linux works great, I just don’t want to learn anything”. Adobe is an absolutely horrible company. Break your addiction. Make the investment to learn KDEnlive, or Davinci or Shotcut(used heavy in movies and TV). Its not Linux fault it can’t run your winslop software. You should learn to use native software. And, the “command line” argument is very 1990s. Now that Windows has PowerShell almost all KB articles from Microsoft have PowerShell command line solutions.

  6. All of the cloud servers run on Linux including Adobe’s, Amazon Cloud Services, etc. Android and Chromebook are Linux. Linux market penetration is now over 6% and climbing, not the 4% you claimed.

“According to the US Federal Government Website and App Analytics, which I trust far more than I do StatCounter, 6% of its visitors over the last month were using Linux operating systems. If you add in Android (16.2%) and Chromebooks (0.8%), you’re talking about 23% of visitors using Linux, which puts it above MacOS (11.7%), Windows 10 (15.7%), and Windows 11 (15.3%), which is downright impressive.” Yes, there are more computers running Linux than MacOS! Let that sink in. Don’t be surprised if you don’t soon see Linux versions of Adobe products. I remember when Abode products were on the Mac platform, only.

People are done with Windoze. Microsoft has held meetings panicking about losing market share to Linux. They’ve already lost $billions with no end in sight.

  7. Sounds to me that they do that on purpose. That way you stay using Microsoft that has a monopoly on the industry. Google is the same way. Just Saying.

  8. This whole video was in Chinese too me. Ive never had a computer besides this phone and ikeep limited on what I use it for and most days it stays in a SLNT bag locked out from the spies. I only use it several miles from my house and out its never out of the bag at home. It’s a shame we have to do that to keep our privacy. But it is what it is.

  9. Don’t bail on Linux just because you run into some issues. I was in IT support for 35 years, had an MCSE in windows with security, also support VMware, Linux which is much more widely used than people realize (core OS on many web servers, switches and storage controllers -for big boxes of hard drives) all that being said I am switching from windows 11 on a now 2year old high end laptop to SBC (single board computer – Orange Pi 5 plus which can be a media server) this running Ubuntu, I’ve had some issues, and with this board , there is little support. But….. So far I’ve been able to work through the issues I’ve run up against. Now my biggest concern is finding the ancient path and walking in it! Learning the Father’s ways in the midst of this fallen world and all the mixed up religions.
So back to adobe, after a short search I found this, important to note -a warning is not necessarily a failure- an i386 fix on Linux – https://askubuntu.com/questions/1536755/how-does-one-install-adobe-acrobat-9-on-ubuntu-22-04-or-24-04 working with Linux takes patience.

  10. Interesting take.

I grew up with command lines so that doesn’t bother me very much. My first OS was 8 bit CPM. I have been almost exclusively Linux since the turn of the century. The last Windows I used extensively was 98. As I was getting started in Linux I do vaguely remember puttering with XP a little bit.

For me it was pretty much just personal computing not corporate computing. As I remember it if you were business oriented you sold your soul to Microsoft and if you were artsy you sold your soul to Apple. What got me really seriously into personal computing was Virtual Pipe Organ Systems. As an organ player at the time I loved the ability to load different virtual instruments. I could either spend thousands of dollars to do it in Windows or Mac, or I could use Linux and do it for peanuts. My budget was peanuts.

I don’t do video editing and my photography years were almost entirely analog film. Thus I never learned Photoshop etc. so when I wanted to edit a digital photo I just learned to do it in GIMP. I like to design and build loudspeakers and vacuum tube amplifiers so I use a few windows freeware packages which I run in WINE but I don’t have to protect an income stream thus I don’t need to feed the bears.

If I decided to get into video editing and production my first step would be to investigate native Linux tools to see what is available. My system is based on Ubuntu Studio so there are dozens of audio production, graphic design/photo, and video tools pre installed that I would look at. Pitivi and OBS Studio are included. For audio it includes DAWs, audio recorder/editors, effects racks and more.

I would like to see Linux working groups really tackle some of the industry specific issues you mention. They have come a long way in the area of personal computing but there are real holes. It is amazing that the ecosystem that created Spice does not have a good, native, general purpose circuit simulation environment.

  11. It is not Linuxs fault the adobe programs do not run on Linux. It is adobes fault. They outright screw Linux

  12. Zack, I have been watching New2Torah for well over a decade! You are a smart guy! I told you the linux trial would not work. BUT, I told you to go Cheap and yes I mean cheap with an Apple Mac Mini. There is way more legit free support out there for macs vs the hundreds of linux distros. I have used an even older version of Adobe when it wasn’t a suite for years too! I also tried the “I’m tired of windows and lets try linux thing” but it didnt work either, as there was always something that didnt work properly. I will say this again; $300-$500 for a good used Mac Mini M series or even new!, $300-$500 for a good monitor ( as you age, those eyes are gonna want a larger screen), Graphics software- just saw the whole Affinity suite is now free!, Video editing- Davinci resolve is Free too! There are tons of tutorial videos on youtube for MacOS 101, Affinity 101 and Davinci Resolve 101….so in like 3 total hours of video tutorials, you could be underway. And for $1000 or less ( WHich you probably paid far more for your windows laptop) you could have a very stable environment. Just save the tutorial video links and if something comes up…..bang..you are there. But again, you are a smart guy, in no time you will have it down and wonder why you never did this before. AND the big one here; when your Mac has an update, YOU can choose to update when YOU want to. Btw, you can also run LibreOffice on a Mac too! Your shirt that says “Stupid should hurt” I say this in the most humble way possible…..NOT going to Mac in this day and time with cheap options make me think you are hurting pretty bad and you don’t need to be hurting. Also, I don’t know what you are using to record video; is it a phone? Android? A cheap fix for that is an iphone 15 Pro Max “Renewed” on Amazon. I got one for $800 with 1TB of storage, with fantastic video quality. Click video>Share>send to Mac>Done! No cables! IF you do the “non-hurting” thing and go to MacOS you will notice there are some things about MacOS that seem similar to linux and since you have been trying linux, it will be even easier for you….as they both are based on unix. BUT as the saying goes with Macs, ‘It just works!” No untimely updates! No Drivers to install! Literally click and drag to install any software! Right click move to trash to uninstall anything! Why? Just Why are you “hurting” yourself???????????????

  13. I understood the AK/AR rant but the rest of the video was some sort of ancient dialect that most people don’t speak anymore.
