The great thing about radios and emergency communications is that you can make upgrades as your budget allows over time.

Off topic question, but what is your opinion on S2 underground here on youtube? he mainly covers daily events on “The Wire” and does weekly gather ups in a data analysis format while trying to keep it bullshit free as much as possible.
what dual band antenna are you using?
Yep! I touched it. Back when parents left kids alone in a car instead of dragging us through the store. It was inevitable. Lol
You really need to research grounding myths vs facts.
You’ve done a great job! Very impressive. Have a great Christmas. I’m a boomer, and yes have burned my thumb with a cigarette lighter in the car….
Keep your ground rods 6 feet apart from each other, A little electrical advice, You can do what you want, but it works better that way, Not trying to get technical about it…………….
Oh and Merry Christmas……..
I’m a boomer, and yeah – still carry the burn scars LMAO
Such good info.
You are doing a great job!
Breaker 1-9 good buddy
I’ve got mine in my truck. It’s a simple CB setup.
1. Grounding -It’s an art, to be sure, but I think I would not ground the antenna to the roof, but instead run a separate ground wire to the copper rod from the roof. In fact, its the perfect opportunity to put in a proper lightning rod, which can protect everything (make the tip sharp and keep it sharp). This avoids ground loops, which can be as devastating as a direct strike on a radio. Everyone has their own opinion on grounding, but lightning rods do almost always work, and being under one is the safest place to be.
2. Noise in shtf – One big concern that I have is that in a true widespread emergency, every owner will be transmitting to do radio checks, trying to help out, or just trying repeatedly to make his desired connection. It is already challenging in local emergencies like hurricanes. Imagine if the entire country or planet is suddenly trying to transmit. I can envision a very expensive setup being about as useful as a hunk of pig iron. Nothing we can do about this, except plan for it to be a possibility and have a backup plan if comm is not an option. Tricky! (There are extreme solutions, but you will be the only one except military operating there, and will get instant attention of the kind that you really dont want.)
3. Amplifiers are cheap, and they don’t need to be turned on unless it is absolutely necessary, and the risk/reward evaluation can be made in the moment. But it’s like a parachute, it doesnt hurt to have one on hand, and possession is not illegal in non-shtf conditions. If you really really really need it, you will use it. Besides, there are plenty of ways to make sure that triangulation doesn’t converge to your permanent location (using mobile setup, for instance).
4. Antennas – any antenna that you can buy, you can make, just as good. A 100ft spool of 16 gauge wire and a few fiberglass rods can make almost any antenna.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Thank you for all your knowledge and support
That first ratchet jawer on the CB sounds like the same voice I heard years ago when I was a truck driver. He talked a lot and never said a thing.
Thanks, video downloaded. Need to follow up with info on the antenna’s…..for those of us not on Patreon.
So I’m an ex farmer, cattle farmer from Alberta, when mad cow happened it devastated my operation and after 7 years I changed my life and moved to the Yukon, I I will NEVER farm again, what the world needs now is mass global starvation, it will make us get our priorities straight. I have much more to say but I’m tired of being pissed off about the situation but I can’t agree enough with your comments, keep it up!!!
