Off Grid Laundry!
We’re almost at the 5 year mark doing our laundry off grid. When people find out we live off grid, they usually have questions about how that works. What about Laundry? Our society is so tuned to just throw it in the washer and dryer not thinking of the energy uses this takes. Most of us might have grandmothers or great grandmothers who would recognize what you will see in this video.

I love your homestead. It’s what I am trying to build on my family’s land.
I think we’d all love to know where you dump out the water when you’re done for the day (is there a drain in the floor?)…and also I think we’d all love a pattern for your lovely hair covering 🙂
Do you make your own laundry soap? If so could you share your recipe.
your set up is awesome! I’m just wondering why your wringer is so high? For me I would want it 6-8″ lower for ease of shoulders.
Girl build yourself a dasher washer!!!! Cheap and works fantastic, we used one for years growing up.
why not collect rain water from the top of the laundry house?
Love it
In most asian country, this laundry setup is considered a luxury..
Do you have any kind of filter on your rain water tanks?
Why are you not using biodegradable soap? Why would you wan to put that soap into your soil and let it build up and ruin the soil?
We have all got to get more independent of the grid.
welcome to 1908!
dam this is awful.
Jaimie, where can I find one of the plunger washers ?
Our first 6 months we washed our clothes in 55 gal poly barrels and hung them on an 5mm ss cable that I spray painted. The ss cable held the clothes for rinsing w a hose. Then to dry.
I would love to have something like this!
This is very inspiring and gives me some ideas! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you, Jaimie! You remind me Lot (biblical person) who had been keeping himself natural in a preverted social environment!
Ok,I do this too in the summer – but HELP, what about in the freezing cold???
I am looking for your video on your new washing machine (non electrical) . I ordered one and got $20.00 off with the code you provided. Now my friend is interested, but I can’t find that episode. Can you help me find it or provide the name of the company and the code? Thanks
